What is tanning?

Tanning takes place in the skin’s outermost layer, the epidermis, with special cells called melanocytes. When exposed to UV-B light (short wave ultraviolet), melanocytes produce the pigment, melanin. The pinkish melanin travels up through the epidermis and is absorbed by other skin cells. When exposed to UV-A light (longer wave), melanin oxidizes or darkens. This is your skin’s way of protecting itself against too much UV light.

How long does it take to get tan?

You will begin to see results in as few as one session. For most people, it usually takes about 10-15 sessions over a 4 week period to get a good base tan. The best way to get tan fast is to make sure you use the lotions at Bronze Anytime to keep your skin hydrated, pampered & to help boost your tan.

Do I need to wear eye protection?

Yes. It is important to us! Please help us protect your beautiful eyes by wear eye protection , so that you don’t get any future vision problems that can be caused by UV exposure. Bronze Anytime requires all of it’s tanning customers to wear the approved eye protection. We want your tanning experience to be as enjoyable & safe as possible!

Why should I use lotion?

We have a huge selection of lotion in our salon created especially for use in our indoor tanning beds and booths to help boost your melanin production (the stuff that browns your skin). These lotions are designed to keep your skin healthy and hydrated. The more hydrated and healthy your skin is, the easier you will gain and retain your beautiful golden tan!

Why is indoor tanning better than outdoor?

Speed – It doesn’t take all day to get a tan indoors. Depending on your skin type, just a few minutes, not hours. Maintain your tan for as little as 60 minutes a month.

Control – Our state-of-the-art equipment allows us to monitor and scientifically control your ultraviolet UV-A and UV-B exposure. We make sure you tan and not burn.

Outdoors – When you tan outdoors, you are exposed to uncontrolled and often excessive amounts of multi-frequency UV that can cause “sunburn” and permanent damage. When you are outside, wear appropriate protection.

Climate – Overcast, rainy, or 109 degrees in the shade, you never have to worry about the weather with your pleasant, climate-controlled environment.

Why does a tan fade?

Cells in the epidermis are constantly reproducing and pushing older cells upward toward the surface of your skin, where they are sloughed off in about one month. As your skin replaces its cells, the cells laden with melanin are removed. So the tanning process must continue with the new cells.

How can I tan safe & smart?

Lip and eye protection – Lips don’t produce melanin and eyelids are too thin to block UV. That’s why it’s important to wear lip balm with sunscreen and protective eye goggles. Eyewear must be certified and approved by the FDA. We offer a selection of goggles that meet these Federal standards. You can avoid “Raccoon Eyes” by gently adjusting your goggles while you tan, but never remove them completely.

Medication – Some medications can cause reactions with UV light. If you are taking any medications, please let your doctor know you’re tanning and make our Consultants aware of any new medications.

How old do I have to be to tan?

You must be 18 to tan, 17 to tan with parent written permission to in the UV beds, we allow ages 12 and up with parental consent to spray tan (UV Free). For more information on these Spray Tan, click here.

Can I tan while pregnant?

There is no danger from UV rays since they cannot penetrate deeper than the dermis (skin layer); pregnant women are advised to be cautious with saunas, hot tubs, and other excessive heat. We recommend you consult your physician first prior to UV tanning, and we cannot allow you to tan while pregnant without your doctor’s consent. A very popular alternative is our handheld spray tans! Can I tan while on medication?

If you’re taking medication, it is recommended you consult with your physician prior to using a tanning bed. If there is a change in dosage or a new medication that you are taking, please let your Tanning Consultant know.
